He was killed during the Third Battle of Ypres in 1917 while putting out barbed wire. His friend laid him to rest in Ramparts Cemetery. He died on 9 November 1917. Buried Row J. Grave 24. Buried at Ramparts (Lille Gate) Cemetery Lieutenant Prince Maurice of Battenberg Prince Maurice of Battenberg was the youngest grandson of Queen Victoria. He was killed during the First Battle of Ypres in 1914 serving with the King’s Royal Rifle Corps. In 1917 the family name was changed to Mountbatten. He died on 27 October 1914. Buried Plot 1. Row B.
