He was killed during the Third Battle of Ypres in 1917 while putting out barbed wire. His friend laid him to rest in Ramparts Cemetery. He died on 9 November 1917. He was killed during the First Battle of Ypres in 1914 serving with the King’s Royal Rifle Corps. In 1917 the family name was changed to Mountbatten. He died on 27 October 1914.
