He died after being badly wounded in action on 2 July 1917. Buried in Plot VI. Row H. Grave 23. of Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery Born in Bristol in 1890, Issac Rosenberg was a poet. He is famous today for his poem ‘Break of Day in the Trenches’, which has become a defining © National Portrait Gallery First World War work. He enlisted in 1915, and was killed in action serving with the Royal Lancaster Regiment in 1918. Buried in Plot V. Row C. Grave 12 of Ballieul Road East Cemetery. Leslie was from Buckinghamshire, and died during the Battle of Arras in 1917. He served with the Howe Battalion of the Royal Naval Division, and was just 18 years old when he was reported missing in action.
