VISIT OUR HISTORIC SITES OF REMEMBRANCE DISCOVER CEMETERIES AND MEMORIALS ACROSS THE SOUTH EAST REGION THE CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL SOUTH EAST 3 DOVER (ST JAMES’S) CEMETERY This cemetery is the final resting place of over 700 service personnel. Throughout both World Wars, hundreds of thousands of soldiers embarked for and returned from the fighting overseas from Dover. Throughout the First World War (1914-18) more than six million wounded servicemen were brought ashore here, and during the Second World War (1914-18) the Dunkirk evacuations were coordinated from here. This is one of three great naval memorials built by the CWGC in the United Kingdom to commemorate the missing of the Royal Navy of the two World Wars. Here at Chatham, more that 18,500 service personnel who have no known grave but the sea are named. 61 King’s Bastion, Gillingham, ME7 5DQ BRIGHTON CITY (BEAR ROAD) CEMETERY 1 2 WEST SUSSEX 4 2 1 EAST SUSSEX 5 KENT 3 4 Old Charlton Road, Dover PATCHAM DOWN INDIAN FORCES CREMATION MEMORIAL During the First World War, thousands of Indian servicemen were cared for at the hospital that was famously housed in the Royal Pavilion in the centre of Brighton.
